What is the Digital Easter Experience?

The Digital Easter Experience is a web based learning resource helping pupils explore the events surrounding Jesus’ death and resurrection. Through a modern- day retelling of the Easter story, pupils take on the role of crime scene investigators to work out who is responsible for Jesus’ death.

It includes:

Four crime scenes where pupils witness the key events surrounding Jesus’ death
The opportunity for pupils to gather and record vital clues as they watch the events unfold.
The opportunity for pupils to interact with the key suspects and record their findings
The opportunity for pupils to decide who they think the guilty party is
A presentation of the Bible’s account of Jesus’ death and resurrection
The option for pupils to print their investigation notes, or send them electronically to their teacher

Who is it for?

Pupils in KS2 and 3 (Age 7-14)
The resource is best completed by pupils individually but it can also be completed by groups of 2, or a larger group led by a teacher.

Where can it be used?

Due to the resource being web based it can be used in different locations:

As a remote learning tool – pupils can access the resource on a computer, phone or tablet at home.
As part of a lesson in school.
- To get the most out of the resource it is recommended that pupils complete it individually on a computer or tablet.
- Pupils can complete it in pairs, sharing a computer or tablet.
- A teacher can lead it from the front of a whole class using an interactive whiteboard.

How long does it take?

It takes between 30 - 45 minutes to complete, depending on how long the pupils take to complete the review sections.

About the church-based Easter Experience

The Digital Easter Experience is based on a live version of the Easter Experience that crossteach run in churches. For the church based experience the four crime scenes are set up in a church and crossteach workers and volunteers act out parts of the key characters. Schools are invited to visit the church to take part in the experience, and it takes approximately one hour for a class to complete.

In 2019, across Nottingham, Warwickshire, London and Tunbridge Wells, crossteach worked with 38 schools, and ran 69 Easter Experience sessions reaching approximately 2000 school pupils.
